The cooperation of the NAPA ports and the Premium Dry Port Villach – Furnitz

Following the aims of the cooperation agreement which was signed on November 24, 2011 in Klagenfurt between NAPA, the Regional Government of Carinthia and the Entwicklungsagentur Karntën GmbH to establish the Premium dry port in Villach-Furnitz, the event was dedicated to the role and impact of operational infrastructures and transport connections based on the example of the Baltic – Adriatic axis. The topics aimed to initiate dialogue between companies, politics and experts and covered the overview of the concept of the Baltic–Adriatic Axis presenting the advantages of this logistic connection such as regional and economic development, political strategies highlighting the benefits for the economy of the affected geographical areas. The topics were discussed at the interactive panel that was formed by the representatives of the Province of Carinthia from Austria, Italian regions of Friuli Venezia Giulia and Veneto, Istria county from Croatia, Ministry of Justice from Former Republic of Macedonia, Centre of Excellence for Economy, Law and Infrastructure of the Province of Carinthia, Centre of Excellence for Logistics in Prien at Chiemsee and Northern Adriatic Ports Association.  Capt. Željko Glavan, Deputy of the Executive Director of the Port of Rijeka Authority, which holds the presidency of NAPA, presented the role of North Adriatic Ports and also participated in special workshop at the Technologie park Villach which was organized by the Regional Government of Carinthia as the first follow up of the signed cooperation of the NAPA ports and the Premium Dry port Villach-Fϋrnitz titled as the Five stars crossing the Alps. The intention was to set up a working group which will drive the implementation of the Dry Port and thus start to fill the cooperation agreement with detailed facts. The working group will continue to develop the innovative concept of Premium Dry Port which offers great savings and generates economic potental for all partners involved.
